(Larnaca, Cyprus)

Photo taken in the traditional City Quarter (Laiki Yeitonia)Time spent shopping for Cyprus souvenirs in Larnaca is always an enjoyable experience, with lots of choice and quality gifts being available. Larnaca is particularly famous for its pottery, with many beautiful ceramics being produced within the historic Turkish Quarter, around the Ak Deniz.

When shopping for ceramics in Larnaca, always take plenty of time to peruse the goods, which will no doubt come in an array of different sizes, styles and prices. And if you choose to buy several pieces of pottery in one go, then the store will often present you with a small gift.

When to Shop and Opening Hours

Larnaca is a busy tourist resort, and so its shopping hours reflect the demand. In the peak season (May to September), shops will remain open well into the evening (taking an afternoon break), while outside of this period, they usually shut at 17:00 / 17:30 or thereabouts.

The smallest shops in Larnaca often choose to close early on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with Sundays not being treated as a working day. Worth noting, there are a number of 24/7 convenience stores and kiosks, should you need to purchase something outside of the normal shopping hours.

Where to Shop

Athinou Avenue is lined with shops and eateries, and is a great place to start any shopping trip in Larnaca. If you are looking for pottery, then consider paying a visit to Emira Pottery on the Mehmet Ali, or to Stavrou Stavrakis or Symeou Efthymios, both of which are to be found on the Ak Deniz.

For something a little more quirky and unusual in Larnaca, Michael S. Michael Antiques on the Mihail Paridi is a shoppers' paradise, being filled with Cypriot jewellery, unusual glass paintings, ornaments and much more besides. Highly detailed lace and silverware from the neighbouring village of Lefkara is easy to come by, while close to the seafront, Hermes (Ermou) Street is brimming with watchmakers and jewellers, selling their wares at very affordable prices. Self-caterers will be pleased to find a number of supermarkets, including Carrefour.
